West Point High School head football coach Chris Chambless announced a reshuffle of his coaching staff this week.
After losing three coaches, including Roger Burton who left to become the head coach at Hollandale Simmons, Chambless had to make a few changes to fill in the missing pieces; Josh Pulphus moved from 8th grade to high school running backs, Casey Welch is now in charge of the offensive line, newly hired Jimmy Coley joins the staff as a junior high coach (7th grade) and Steve Cannon will become the 8th grade football coach.
Chambless said he expects to add another coach, but won't know for certain until roughly next week.
Monday, the school board approved the hiring of Murray Woody as the new girl's basketball coach. Woody last year led 1A Ethel to the South State title and 26-3 record. Before that, he had stops at Hamilton and Montgomery County.
"After careful consideration and talking with several applicants, he was the best fit for our program at this time," Chambless said of Woody. "Not only does he come highly recommended in the coaching profession but also in the academic profession."
