West Point tops Houston, 57-36 - Woody gets first win as girls head coach

November 8, 2011

West Point looked in sync for three out of four quarters Tuesday night.

Apart from the forth quarter where several starters sat out and the game already in hand, the Green Wave girls basketball notched their first win of the season, 57-36.

“We did a better job of executing tonight,” first year head coach Murray Woody said. “Our guards did a good job of getting others the ball and opening up some opportunities for them. We still have a little work to do as far as breaking presses and traps, but overall, we looked better than we did Saturday.”

West Point wasted no time getting to the basket, converting on several Houston turnovers and missed opportunities inside the paint. The Green Wave scored 12 consecutive points before the Lady Hilltoppers finally got on the board with a free-throw. By the end of the first period, the Green Wave had a commanding 18-1 advantage.

Woody, switched back to man defense tonight, and was pretty happy with the results early on.

“They were more aggressive, the rotated well and met passes,” he said. “They did what we have been practicing. If we can get a little better than that, I think we’ll be alright.”
