West Point Team Finishes Fifth Tourney

July 11, 2012

On Saturday, the West Point 9-10 year old All-Stars finished the first inning of their game with Caledonia down 5-0.
"When we got down like that, we could have just given up," Coach Sherman Berry said. "But we chipped away and chipped away and scored enough to win."
The West Point team finished fifth out of 15 teams in the tournament.
The win Saturday put West Point in a Sunday afternoon game with Starkville.
Starkville took the contest 25-16.
"We had too many errors," Berry said.
The West Point squad began the tournament by defeating Calhoun City 7-6 on Thursday. Followed by a 13-3 loss to Starkville on Friday. _
On Saturday, West Point defeated the Columbus Americans 13-8 and beat Caledonia 14-8 on Sunday before falling to Starkville.
"I was very proud of the boys," Berry said. "They all came a long way from our very first practice, from where we started to where we finished. To finish fifth out of fifteen teams on two weeks of practice is very promising for the future of baseball in West Point."
