Boys: West Point 89, Houston 51

The West Point Green Wave (11-1) extended its winning streak to eight games with an easy, 89-51 win over the Houston Hilltoppers (3-5) Tuesday night on the campus of West Point High School in West Point.
“It is good that we protected home court,” West Point Head Coach Brad Cox said. “We were good at home last year, we want to continue that this year. We started the game, but we hit a lull in the second quarter – little stuff and mental mistakes hurt us ... I thought the second half was crisp, defensively and offensively.”
West Point seniors Tre Williams and Demarius Calvert each scored 16 points to pace all scorers. Qdarius Chandler and Brandon Suell both scored 10 points, putting four Wave players into double figures for the contest.
“We shared the ball in the first half and rotated around the perimeter,” Calvert said. “They found me when I was open, and my guards fed me the ball.
“I like the challenge of not being the biggest guy down low,” Calvert added. “I know I have to take on guys so I can feel in that position.”
The 16-point performance by Williams was strong accomplishment for the senior guard after he suffered severe legs cramps that required him to receive an IV at the hospital after the 74-66 win over Tupelo Friday night.

“I've been drinking a lot of water,” Williams said. “I feel I can play one hundred percent after that incident. The confidence is there, and my team gets behind to shot the ball.”
