West Point dominated from the opening kick on Friday night as the Green Wave jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead, en route to a 51-7 win over the Olive Branch Conquistadors. Both teams entered the contest with identical records of 7-0 and 3-0 in Class 5A Region 1. However, the teams’ play on the gridiron was all but identical.

Marcus Murphy scored on a 30-yard touchdown run to put the Green Wave on the board 7-0. Ryan Melton would then block an Olive Branch punt, which set West Point up with outstanding field position. The Green Wave would capitalize on the field position, as Jake Chambless found Jason Brownlee for a 34-yard touchdown pass, giving West Point a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Everything snowballed for Olive Branch from there, as Melton blocked another punt, setting up an 8-yard Murphy touchdown run to put the Green Wave ahead 34-0 at halftime.

Olive Branch came out in the second half and recovered an onside kick, but the Conquistadors were unable to do much with the possession, only picking up four first downs on the night. West Point outgained Olive Branch 482-68 in total yardage, which is a shocking statistic for two teams that entered the game undefeated.

Murphy, a Mississippi State commit, finished the game with 141 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries, while Nate Montgomery ran for 122 yards and one touchdown on nine carries. Chris Calvert also added 81 yards and two touchdowns for the Green Wave.

Jake Chambless threw for 52 yards and one touchdown on 5-for-8 passing. Jason Brownlee led West Point in receiving with three catches for 55 yards and a score, while Chris Calvert and Shun Crawford each caught one pass apiece.

The Green Wave limited Olive Branch quarterback Cole Catledge to 6 yards passing on 1-of-13 passing. The lone bright spot for the Conquistadors was Cameron Mosley’s 41 yards rushing and Olive Branch’s lone touchdown of the night.

West Point (8-0, 4-0) will host the Grenada Chargers next Friday night, as the Green Wave look to extend their20-game win streak, dating back to the 2016 Starkville loss. Grenada is 4-5 on the season and is coming off a 14-12 win over Lafayette. Olive Branch (7-1, 3-1) will try to get back on track, as the Conquistadors travel to Lake Cormorant Friday night.
