The West Point Green Wave announced a change of schedule Tuesday afternoon.
West Point Head Coach Chris Chambless said the Wave (8-2; 5-1 Region 1-5A) moved its regular season finale against the Lewisburg Patriots from Friday to Thursday night. The game kicks off at 7 with senior recognition preceding the start at 6:15 at McCallister Field on the campus of West Point High School. It is the third consecutive season West Point and Lewisburg have played on Thursday night to close out the regular season.
The decision was made as a threat of heavy rain and possible thunder showers is expected to hit West Point and north Mississippi on Friday. Many schools have made similar decisions to move games to Thursday night.
West Point has clinched the No. 2 seed from Region 1-5A in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class-5A playoffs that start next week. The Wave hosts the loser of Germantown-Ridgeland in Region 2-5A, which is played this Friday.
