The West Point Green Wave (10-9; 3-1) basketball team will be back on the home court again tonight.
A week ago, the Green Wave traveled to New Hope, to face off against the district rival Trojans. West Point barely fell in overtime to New Hope, giving the Wave its first district loss of the season.
Tonight, they will be looking to make it two in a row, and a 4-1 district record when the Trojans come in for a rematch.
In last week’s game, the Green Wave led several times throughout the match, but they could not hold on.
Late in the game, New Hope made a push to send the game into an overtime quarter.
A late foul was called on the Green Wave that set up two free throw points by the Trojans, who took a one-point lead.
West Point had three seconds to make it back down the court for a final shot, but top shooter, Laquintis Robertson, could not get a two-pointer from the floor to drop into the bucket.
The loss marks the only one in the district so far for the Green Wave this season.
West Point rebounded well on Friday night, taking down the Tigers of Saltillo by 40 points.
The Tigers never had a chance against a solid Green Wave defense, and an explosive offense.
During that game, everyone got on the board, including all five of the team’s seniors who celebrated senior night that evening.
After tonight’s game, the Green Wave will travel to Oxford to take on the Chargers for the second time this season. West Point won the first match in West Point.
On Friday night, the team will finish out the 2010-2011 season with a road game at Noxubee.
On February 8 and 11 the Green Wave will host the district tournament.
