Anyone who drove the two-plus hour drive to Batesville on Saturday night, listened to the West Point vs. South Panola game on the radio or watched the stream on the internet, got their money's worth.
The 12-10 win by the Tigers over West Point will be one talked about for a long time.
"I knew what these guys were going up against tonight," West Point head coach Chris Chambless said of his team after the game. "South Panola's defensive line is one of the best in the state."
That defensive line kept West Point's offense out of the end zone until late in the fourth quarter. Add a safety on to that from the first quarter, and the Green Wave had 10 precious points to the Tigers' 9 with four seconds to go in the game.
The only problem was that the Tigers were on the one-yard line, and they had already kicked three field goals on the night.
The chip shot went through the uprights as the final buzzer sounded on the Panola win.
More stories and details, along with pictures from the game, will be in Tuesday's edition of the Daily Times Leader.
