Last Friday night, the West Point Green Wave (2-1) were shocked in the second half of their contest against the visiting Starkville Yellowjackets.
The defeat not only put a blemish on the Wave’s 2010 regular season record, but it also marked the end of a 16 game winning streak.
Last season, the Green Wave opened with a loss to the Shannon Red Raiders.
After that, the team went on a tear across the state, winning its next 14 ball games, including a state title victory.
To open up the 2010 season, the Green Wave got revenge against Shannon, with an opening week win to bring the streak to 15.
The following week, the Wave defeated Mainland High school to run the count to 16 in a row.
Unfortunately for the Green Wave, that is where the current streak stopped.
Tonight, the Green Wave will be facing a very tough 4-0 Noxubee County team, which will be coming to West Point.
The Green Wave are looking to make this win number one in the next winning streak.
Noxubee defeated Starkville in week one 14-7. That was their closes ball game yet.
They went on to defeat Columbus 27-6. They followed that up with a 57-6 win over Murrah.
Keeping the defense strong, the Tigers moved on to take down Greenville-Weston 38-6.
The Tigers have not allowed more than seven points this season in a game, and they have only been held to under 20 points once. Tonight’s game is scheduled to start at 7:30.
