West Point learns valuable lesson at Aberdeen

December 8, 2012

West Point traveled to Aberdeen in their first true road test. In a game that was closely contested, Aberdeen was able to pull away in the second half to go on to win 88-66.
In the first quarter, West Point did not have the best start but were still competitive in the game. By the midway point, Aberdeen led 9-8 over the Green Wave. With both teams finding a rhythm, the Wave and the Bulldogs shot well from the floor in the quarter. A.J. Jones tied the game at 20 points, but Aberdeen was able to score the final five points and took a 25-20 lead into the second quarter. The Wave came out stronger in the second quarter, shooting the ball well. A physical first half saw Aberdeen collect team fouls and put West Point on the line. The Green Wave retook the lead with five minutes remaining in the quarter 26-25. Aberdeen though came back strong again closing out the half leading 43-37.
In the second half, Aberdeen simply out played the Green Wave and it showed on the scoreboard. The third quarter was finished with an 11-2 run by Aberdeen and the Bulldogs led 63-50. The Bulldogs shot well from the free throw line and out rebounded the Wave in the half. Aberdeen stretched their lead further and won the game 88-66.
Tre Williams led the Green Wave in scoring with 19 points. Juan Davis contributed 13 points along with Tony Craddeth’s 11 points closing out the top three scorers.
West Point ended their winning streak, but the early test against Aberdeen will give the Green Wave some talking points for the rest of the season. The Wave will have to forget about the loss and return to the court with a little more focus and execution.
