Tony Craddeth scored 18 points, Tre Williams added 17, and the West Point Green Wave (21-5; 3-2 District 2-5A) outlasted the New Hope Trojans, 74-67, in a MHSAA District 2-5A game Tuesday night at West Point High School.
“In the third quarter and start of the fourth, we were able to get deflections on passes, and we were able to get out and run,” West Point Head Coach Brad Cox said. “We got into foul trouble early in the second half, but Tony Craddeth came off the bench and gave us a big boost of energy. He really got us going. A.J. (Jones) did a good job in transition, which really helped us.”
West Point used a strong third quarter behind the efforts of Craddeth as he scored eight of his 18 points in the eight-minute span. Craddeth scored four points in a 6-0 run midway through the quarter for a Wave six-point lead, 40-34, which was never relinquished. The senior added an offensive put back that beat the buzzer at the end of the third quarter, giving West Point a 12-point advantage, 54-42.
“It started off with defense and how we passed the ball,” Williams said. “We got fast breaks, and we are a team that’s comfortable with running.
“After losing two in a row, we got down on ourselves, but we needed the ‘W’ tonight,” Williams added.
New Hope knocked down a 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining, bringing West Point within six points, 73-67, the rally was too late. After the Wave built a 16-point advantage, the Trojans toppled the lead in the final minutes. West Point went three of four from the free-throw line, and a Demarius Calvert two-point make prevented another late-game collapse.
