West Point athletics will hold a tip-off event tonight for the boys and girl’s basketball teams, along with introductions of the other winter and spring sports teams.

“Baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball teams will all be introduced,” West Point girls basketball coach Dash Daniel said. “We will have an inter-team scrimmage between the (varsity) boys, and junior high boys, and junior high girls, and the varsity boys will have a dunk contest and three-point shootout.”

The event will start at 6 p.m. tonight in the West Point gymnasium. This is an annual event that the teams hold to recognize its sports teams who will be competing in the winter and spring months.

“It’s kind of like football’s ‘Meet the Greenies’” Daniel said. “It is like a college tip-off. Most schools do ‘Midnight Madness’ – we just don’t do it at midnight.”

Daniel said that he expects there to be a large turnout at the event, as usual.

“We have a prospective ‘Dandy Dozen’ basketball player in junior Austin Crowley,” Daniel said. “He’s just an awesome talent.”
