Thursday night was West Point’s toughest battle to date. The Green Wave hoops team came in, riding high, after last Tuesday’s win over Houston.
Tupelo, however, had other plans for the Green Wave, as they pummeled them 90-57.
Deontaye Ewing, Tupelo’s top scorer, put up 26 points in the game to pace his team’s win.
The game was tight in the first quarter, with West Point keeping it to a four-point deficit in the first eight minutes. Tupelo led 19-15 after the first.
In the second, however, it was all Tupelo, as the Green Wave could not get much done on either side of the ball. Tupelo scored 20 to West Point’s eight to make it 39-23 going into the half.
For the next two quarters, the Green Wave offense did well, scoring 19 in the third and 15 more in the fourth, but it was nothing compared to Tupelo’s 26 in the third and 25 more in the final eight minutes of the game.
For West Point, LaQuante Gaston led the team with nine points. Willie Edwards had eight and Daryl Thomas had seven. Cortez Malone scored four and A.J. Jones scored a point in the game.
