Last Friday night, the West Point Lady Green Wave (14-3; 1-1) basketball team hit their first real snag of the 2010-2011 season.
After winning 13 games in a row, the girls took a tough loss to the Lady Chargers of Oxford High School in the team’s second district game of the season.
Tonight, the Lady Wave will try to get things back on track in another important district game, on the road, against the Lady Trojans of New Hope High School.
The girls now have an even district record, as they continue to battle for one of the top two spots in the division, with the district tournament looming a couple of weeks away.
Until Friday night, West Point had not lost since the month of November, which included a December 17 district win over Saltillo.
The Lady Trojans, on the other hand, have been struggling all season, coming in with five wins and 11 losses.
New Hope enters a game in a slump where they have won just one game out of the last eight tries.
They will be trying to get back into the hunt in the district race.
West Point’s girls have a number of important district matches ahead of them, having to play the Lady Chargers again, in a makeup game at their place.
They will host Saltillo Friday and New Hope the following Tuesday. They’ll finish out against Noxubee before hosting the district tournament, starting on February 8.
