With about three weeks left to go in the regular season, honors are already starting to pour in for players on the West Point Green Wave football team.
It was announced on Wednesday that senior defensive standout Tommy Keys and senior quarterback Justin Cox were selected to represent the state during the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star game.
The game will be played in Mobile on December 11.
“As a coach, you nominate as many players as you can,” Chambless said. “You hope you at least have one or two picked. We have two picked.”
Chambless, who will be coaching on the defensive side in the game, says that the voters picked the best of the best in the state to represent their schools and Mississippi.
“Luckily the 12 voters who voted, who included some sports writers, felt like our guys were worthy to play in it,” Chambless said. “I’m proud. Every coach in the state of Mississippi nominates players who they think can play in this game, I nominated a few.”
Cox, who is listed at 185 pounds, gave Mississippi State a verbal commitment to play during the summer.
Also receiving post-season honors already were Vontarrius Dora, a senior defensive lineman, who is listed at 240 pounds, and Jaquille White, a senior defensive back listed at 191 pounds. Both were chosen to represent the north half team in the North-South game that will take place on December 18.
“I’m glad they thought high enough of our players to let them play,” Chambless said of the voters who selected the four Green Wave players.
