West Point Green Wave fans will get their first look at this season’s edition of the team with a Saturday afternoon scrimmage.
West Point faces defending Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class-3A state champion Louisville Wildcats at 3 p.m. at Scott Field in Starkville. The scrimmage is a part of the New Hope High School fall jamboree, which boasts six different match-ups, beginning with a scrimmage between Philadelphia and Aberdeen at 9 a.m.
Last year, Louisville stunned West Point with a 35-14 victory in the two-quarter scrimmage.
West Point Head Coach Chris Chambless said he and his coaching staff are hoping to utilize the scrimmage to get as many players on the film as possible.
“It’s going to be hard to get a lot of people on the field in two quarters,” Chambless said. “We need to see what we got. And we want to see different combinations of people on the field. It’s a test on doing the little things right. We want the kids to play hard and have fun. ”
