The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation is celebrating Shrove Tuesday and wants to invite the community to a pancake supper the night before the beginning of the Lenten Season.
The Shrove Tuesday pancake supper is from 5:15 p.m – 7 March 4 at the Episcopal Church . The price is $5 per person and $15 for a family. There will be pancakes, sausage and bacon to signal the end of the Carnival Season and the beginning of Lent. The church has followed the tradition for more than 20 years.
Shrove Tuesday is also referred to as Fat Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday on the last night of Mardi Gras, according to Dawn Richardson, Episcopal Church of the Incarnation parishioner. The tradition began by the devout cleaning out of churchgoers pantries of rich foods before Lent. Most of the foods were eggs, butter, sugar and milk — the ingredients of pancakes, Richardson said.
“We encourage everyone to come and fellowship with us,” said John Kellogg, Episcopal Church of the Incarnation priest. “We want to share the celebration with the entire community. You don't have to be a member of our congregation. We want to welcome everyone.”
