Already with a win on Friday night, against Columbus, the West Point Diamond Wave baseball team (4-1) returned to the field on Saturday afternoon for a match with Hamilton. The Green Wave won for the second time in as many days in a 6-4 comeback victory.
Following their 6-2 Friday night win, the Green Wave sent Leroy Calvert to the hill on Saturday. Calvert pitched a complete game, throwing seven innings, walking none. He struck out six batters, and only three of the four runs he allowed were earned.
“He (Calvert) gave up several hits early, but he settled in and threw very well for us,” said West Point head coach Buddy Wyers.
West Point has shown great ability in rallying from behind early on in the season. They scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth, on Saturday, to complete their comeback win against Hamilton.
Dalentez Lane had two hits on the afternoon, including a triple. Ed Cox was 3-for-4 in the game with a pair of doubles.
Will Harrell had two hits, including a double, and Bruce Barclay and Freddie Reed both had a single. Calvert helped out his cause at the plate with a single as well, giving the Green Wave 10 hits on the afternoon.
The West Point team will take a brief break this week, but they will return to the diamond in the latter half to face three teams at the Alcorn Central Tournament on Thursday and Friday.
