A two-car collision occurred Friday night in Clay County, leaving two West Point residents seriously injured.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Sgt. Criss Turnipseed said the accident happened about 10:45 p.m. Friday on Highway 45 Alt. at the Tibbee bridge.
According to Turnipseed, 48-year-old Louis Chandler, of Pontotoc, was driving a 2005 silver Ford F-150 truck and traveling north in the southbound lane of Hwy 45.
Chandler collided with 28-year-old Joana Hardwick, of West Point, who was driving a 2006 cream-colored Chrysler.
Also, 28-year-old Maurice Hall, of West Point, was in the car with Hardwick at the time of the accident.
Turnipseed said that Hardwick was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo with serious injuries, and then airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Hall was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus with serious injuries.
Chandler was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point with non-life-threatening injuries and was released.
Turnipseed said blood samples were taken from Chandler at the hospital and, as of Monday, the crash is still under investigation. Charges against Chandler are pending blood test results.
