Weekend football in review

October 1, 2012

West Point and Hebron move forward, Oak Hill stumbles a bit this week.
The Green Wave went on a Tiger hunt in the wilds of Hernando on Friday night. The trip yielded great results as the West Point team was able to make quick work of Hernando.
It was a rare night for the younger players on the Green Wave football team in that because the Tigers proved so tame, the second and third string players got a chance to add a more points to the victory.
Coach Chambless and the West Point Green Wave take on Clarksdale at home this week in an attempt to gain a foothold toward another state championship.
The boys at Hebron pulled out their seventh win of the year on Friday night. The unlucky accomplice in the Eagles’ continuance of their streak was Kemper Academy. The Hebron reputation must have preceded it; however, over the course of this year, Coach Foster has built a seriously impressive eight-man game built around strong defense and quick offense.
Seven who have taken up the Hebron challenge have fallen and only one remains. Flint Hill Christian, an away game, is the last of the season for Hebron. The final rivet into a perfect season.
Oak Hill Academy stumbled into a bit of quicksand against Leake Academy Friday night. The Rebels has control of the ball pretty much throughout the entire game. Certainly so when it mattered.
Coach Merchant and his boys will go back to the board this week as they prepare for a trip to Heritage Academy, a game that should bring them back up to an even keel as far as this season goes.
Friday surely provided plenty of action for our local teams, and this coming Friday promises even more.
