The We Care Committee will open its nutrition feeding program for children in West Point this summer.
WCC President LueZarah Robinson said the program will start June 1 and run every weekday until Aug. 6. The program is for all children in the West Point and Clay County community and will serve breakfast and lunch.
â€śWeâ€™ll be serving healthy meals and weâ€™ll have daily activities,â€ť Robinson said. â€śI â€” and one other cook â€” will be in the kitchen and weâ€™ll have an assistant helping serve.â€ť
She said breakfast will be served from 8.-9:30 a.m, and lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m at the LueZarah Robinson Health Care Services building at 826 Highway 45 Alt. N.
â€śItâ€™s for needy children but also for any child,â€ť she said. â€śAny child that comes up, we can feed them and provide them with education and activities.â€ť
The education and activities will be provided by the Mississippi State Department of Health District IV Public Educators Eileen Carr-Tabb and Jeremy Baugh.
Carr-Tabb said Robinson called her about the program and asked if she would be able to put together activities for the children to take part in when they finish eating.
â€śWeâ€™ll be doing healthy activities with the children,â€ť Carr-Tabb said. â€śWeâ€™ll do biking and walking tips because kids will be outdoors a lot this summer.â€ť
She said Baugh will demonstrate proper bicycle equipment for participants, as well as educate them about safe walking and riding lanes.
