The We Care Committee will open its nutrition feeding program for children in West Point this summer.
WCC President LueZarah Robinson said the program will start June 1 and run every weekday until Aug. 6. The program is for all children in the West Point and Clay County community and will serve breakfast and lunch.
“We’ll be serving healthy meals and we’ll have daily activities,” Robinson said. “I — and one other cook — will be in the kitchen and we’ll have an assistant helping serve.”
She said breakfast will be served from 8.-9:30 a.m, and lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m at the LueZarah Robinson Health Care Services building at 826 Highway 45 Alt. N.
“It’s for needy children but also for any child,” she said. “Any child that comes up, we can feed them and provide them with education and activities.”
The education and activities will be provided by the Mississippi State Department of Health District IV Public Educators Eileen Carr-Tabb and Jeremy Baugh.
Carr-Tabb said Robinson called her about the program and asked if she would be able to put together activities for the children to take part in when they finish eating.
“We’ll be doing healthy activities with the children,” Carr-Tabb said. “We’ll do biking and walking tips because kids will be outdoors a lot this summer.”
She said Baugh will demonstrate proper bicycle equipment for participants, as well as educate them about safe walking and riding lanes.
