The West Point Green Wave will play their final regular-season home game tonight against the Saltillo Tigers. Not only is tonight’s game the last home game, it will also be senior night for the Green Wave.
The West Point basketball team will recognize five seniors for their involvement on the team. The five players being honored are Peair Howard, Lyndon Johnson, Emmanuel Moore, Justin Hosey, and Jamar Nance.
After senior night festivities, all eyes will turn to the action on the court as only two district games remain for head coach Brad Cox and his team. Tuesday night the Wave fell on the road to New Hope 64-54 and would like to rebound tonight to pick up their third district win. West Point have a 2-2 record in district 2 5-A and still can grab the top spot.
It will not be an easy task as Saltillo was the victor in the previous district match-up with West Point. The Wave played very poorly in the meeting and will have to make some improvements if they want to get over the Tigers.
“Taking care of the ball,” commented Coach Cox about the key to defeating Saltillo, “we do not want to give them any easy baskets or offensive rebounds, if we can do that we will be able to take care of business.”
Saltillo comes off a Tuesday loss in Oxford, falling to the Chargers 65-62 in a very close game. The Tigers currently hold a 2-3 record in district 2 5-A and will hope to close out the district schedule with a win over West Point.
The race is wide open for any seeding in the district, and all teams will push for the top spot. Game time is set to tip-off around 7:30.
Lady Wave look to carry over effort

The Lady Wave are hoping that they are peaking at the right time in the season. After a difficult loss to New Hope 46-43, West Point and first year head coach Kendall Pickens are looking at tonight’s game against the Saltillo Lady Tigers as the spark to propel them further as ball club.
In the previous meeting between the Lady Wave and Lady Tigers, West Point took a road win over Saltillo 50-48 in maybe one of the highlight games of the season. The Lady Wave pressed Saltillo well and Coach Pickens sees that style of defense to be once again the key to victory.
“Last time they [Saltillo] could not handle our press,” commented Pickens during a phone interview, “I just hope our effort from the New Hope game carries over.”
Saltillo enters into tonight’s game following a loss to Oxford on the road 65-36. After the loss to the Lady Chargers, the Lady Tigers have yet to find a victory in district 2 5-A, holding an 0-5 record.
The Lady Wave and Saltillo are set to kick-off the slate of games at 6:00 at the West Point High School gym.
