The Oak Hill Academy Raiders (9-13; 3-3) finished up the district play on Friday night with a hard-fought performance against Manchester that resulted in an unfortunate loss for the Raiders. On Saturday, Oak Hill’s boys returned to the court against Starkville, falling again in the non-district game, 63-44.
The Raiders have guaranteed themselves the No. 2 seed at the district tournament, which will be at Winston. With the Starkville game and three home matches this week, the boys should have plenty of live-action under their belts before the tourney.
In the first quarter on Saturday, the Starkville boys jumped out on top 29-12 by the end of the first quarter. The 17-points difference would prove to be insurmountable for Oak Hill.
The Raiders came back to score 15 in the second, but the Volunteers’ 13 made it 42-27 at the half.
Starkville continued to pile it on in the third quarter, getting 15 more from the offense, while holding the Oak Hill boys at bay with nine points.
The Raiders would put up only eight in the final eight minutes of the game to complete the 19-point loss.
John Wesley Williamson led the Raiders on the afternoon with 13 points. Senior Steven Jones put up a dozen for the Raiders. Jeb Stevens and Conner Baird had seven points, Jacob Dickens had three, and John Robert Wilbourne scored two points.
Oak Hill will host Heritage tonight, starting at 4 p.m.
