Musgrove campaigns in West Point
Saturday, 06 September 2008

Former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove was in West Point Thursday, shaking hands with citizens and other elected officials at the Clay County court house.

Musgrove is seeking a United States Senate seat, but he is not a stranger to politics and Mississippi. Musgrove served two terms as a state senator and was Lt. Governor under Kirk Fordice. Musgrove was the 62nd governor of Mississippi.
The last few years he has been practicing law with the law firm of Copeland, Cook, Taylor & Bush, P.A. in Ridgeland and teaching at Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson.
Musgrove and his wife, Melody, have four children. They live in Madison.
An advocate for education, Musgrove hasn’t forgot the average citizen who may not have attended college or graduated from high school.
He feels the United States needs to renegotiate free trade agreements.
Musgrove feels the unemployment rate 10.3 percent for Mississippi can be blamed on companies moving to China and other countries. The workers are left with an unemployment check, which doesn’t cover the bills, said Musgrove. He has plans to bring jobs back to Mississippi and give people jobs that are dependable.
Musgrove is pro-life and pro-gun. He has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association.
“I have four children who are hunters,” said Musgrove, who is and has always been a strong supporter of pro-life.
Aware of the three major factories which have closed down in West Point Musgrove said closures are all over the state. A lot of closures, according to Musgrove, are due to the economy and the out of control spending being done by Congress.
“We are mortgaging our future and our children’s future,” said Musgrove. He said out of control spending hurts the economy and devalues the dollar.
Musgrove thinks an energy policy would help the economy. He feels we need to reduce gas prices and stop our dependency on foreign oil. He said if Congress would crack down on Wall Street speculators gas prices would be reduced.
“Every time we have cracked down, it reduces the price by one third,” said Musgrove.
Drilling is in Musgrove’s plans and incentives for alternate energy.
“We need to hold the big oil companies accountable and improve efficiency,” said Musgrove.
With the Iraqi war still going on, Musgrove is concerned with veterans benefits and the difficulties a veteran has when trying to get them.
“It is deplorable the way Congress has failed to take care of our veterans,” said Musgrove. “I will fight to make sure all veterans receive proper care and benefits.”
Musgrove has specific plans when he wins. He will  immediately start cracking down on the amount of money being spent in Congress and developing an energy plan.
