‘Biggest yard sale’ helps WP Booster Club
Thursday, 24 July 2008

What better way to raise money than having a yard sale?
The bigger the better, according to Lynda Koch, vice president of West Point Booster Club.
The WPBC sponsors a yard sale Aug. 26, behind the Civic at the baseball field on Fifth Street.
More than 100 families are expected to participate, and those who do not want to setup their stuff are donating items to the Booster Club.

“People are more than welcomed to drop off stuff at Coon Tattoo at 225 E. Main Street,” said Koch.
Koch request people dropping stuff off tag it with what they think the item would be worth.
The money raised from the yard sale will go toward trips, U-hauls for carrying instruments, competitions, needed materials and some repairs.
Koch said if someone can’t afford the dues, the Booster Club steps in.
The yard sale is something new and Koch hopes it becomes an annual event. Not only does it help the Booster Club, but it helps citizens with cleaning and getting rid of stuff not wanted and a chance to help a worth while cause.
The Booster Club will continue fund raisers. West Point is familiar with many of them , including sale of the calendars, candles and Prairie Arts Festival. This year the Booster Club had a stand at Una Fun Festival.
Plans for the Prairie Arts Festival are being added to this year. The Booster Club will offer temporary tattoos and face painting along with their usual food.
The yard sale begins at 6 a.m. and continues until noon. Koch said they will be selling smoked sausage and biscuits and drinks.
There is no fee to be a part of the yard sale, but everything sold will go towards the band.
Koch said the kids are at band camp this week and next week some restaurants have volunteered to feed the kids a meal, but more donations are needed even water and Gatorade.
To donate  water, Gatorade or yard sale items, call Debra Brown at 494-0811or Koch at 295-3456.
