EMCC hold commencement ceremonies
Tuesday, 13 May 2008
Friday afternoon, 161 graduates received their Associate degrees from East Mississippi Community College.

Dr. Rick Young, president of EMCC, encouraged the graduates to take steps towards excellence.
Young told the graduates to seek new heights and follow their dreams and passions, because their dreams will turn into reality and their destiny is in their own hands.
“What you say and do defines who you are,” said Young. “Your thoughts become words and your words become actions.”
The graduates should embrace change and be known by the choices they make, he said.
“See obstacles as opportunities.  Obstacles are scary things you see as you take your eyes off your goals,” said Young.
Tiffany Wicks and Brandi Wynn were among the West Point natives who graduated.  Wicks, a graduate of West Point High School, received an Associate of Arts Degree in Elementary Education.  She is the daughter of Sheryl and Donnell Wicks.  Wicks is the mother of Tylan Wicks.  She is a member of The House of Life Freedom Ministries.
“I’m very proud.  I’m looking for her to move on to MSU,” said Sheryl Wicks.
Wicks wants to teach third or fourth graders.  She chose Elementary Education as her major because she loves kids and likes to be around them.
“My mom and Aunt Frances are teachers,” said Wicks.  “I went with Frances to school to see how to teach kids.”
Wicks was secretary of the Student Government Association, Sophomore Maid, Miss EMCC, and an EMCC Ambassador.
Brandi Wynn, a  graduate of Oak Hill Academy, received her Associate of Arts degree in Cognitive Psychology.  This degree is a way for Wynn to give back to those in need.  She is a member of First Baptist Church. Wynn is the daughter of Marilyn Young and Stepdaughter of Eddie Lance.
“Very proud.  She has a very bright future ahead of her,” said Marilyn Young.
She was an EMCC Ambassador, former SGA secretary, and “Most Beautiful.”  Wynn is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Sorority.
Wicks and Wynn both plan to attend Mississippi State University in the fall.
