There were 63 employers taking applications and talking with job seekers Thursday at the Northeast Mississippi Job Fair on the Mayhew campus of East Mississippi Community College.
“Last year was a real success,” said Dr. Rick Young, president of EMCC, who was pleased with the participation at this year’s fair.The job fair was open to students from 9:30 a.m. until noon. At noon, the job fair opened to the general public. Business accepting application were: 4-County Electric Power Association, Aflac, All American Check Cashing, American Eurocopter, Anel Corporation, Aurora Australis Lodge, Avon Products, Cadence Bank, Citizens National Bank, Columbus Army Recruiting Station, Columbus Brick Co., Columbus Light and Water, The CPI Group Inc., Diamond Grove Center, DynCorp International, Eat With Us Group, Ellis Steel Co Inc., EMCC, Georgia Pacific LLC, Golden Triangle Mill Service, Harrah’s Entertainment, Humana Market Point, Jesco Inc., Jobs in MS.Com, Job Win Center Mobil Unit, Key Staff Source Inc., Kirby Inland Marine, Magnolia Business Systems, Marathon Equipment, Mid South Sign Association, MINACT Inc., Miss. Air Guard, Miss. Army National Guard, Miss. Department of Employment Security, Miss. Department of Human Services, Miss. Department of Rehabilitation, Miss. Personnel Board, Miss. State University, Miss. Jobs available included: career associates, mechanics, medical fields, linemen, directors, clerks, technicians, chef, cooks, hostess, servers, operators, welders, and many more positions not listed were offered. Prestage Farms attended the job fair seeking employees for feed mill maintenance, livestock truck driver (local and long haul). This is the first job fair in which Prestage Farms has participated. “We hire six to 10 people a month,” said Jim Murray with Prestage Farms. Prestage Farms has headquarter offices in West Point are located in West Point, and farms in Crawford, Pheba, Palo-Alto and Houlka. Ultralife Batteries Inc. was also present at the job fair, seeking general assemblers and production workers. Ellis Steel was proud of the response they received last year, returning this year hoping for the same, according to Frank Hopper, president of Ellis Steel Co.
