Special to the Daily Times Leader The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics today arrested a man being released from the Lowndes County Jail on an unrelated charge, pursuant to a yearlong investigation into what law enforcement calls “doctor shopping.” MBN Director Marshall Fisher announced that 30-year-old Shane A. Bazzell of Columbus was arrested on a grand jury indictment charging him with four counts of obtaining Adderall, a Schedule II narcotic, by fraud.
Adderall is the brand name for a prescription drug used in the treatment of narcolepsy, attention deficit disorder and severe obesity. Officers refer to the practice of seeing multiple healthcare providers and filling multiple prescriptions at various pharmacies as “doctor shopping,” Director Fisher said. Over a nearly two-year period, agents allege that Bazzell saw 13 healthcare providers and obtained more than 11,000 dosage units of Adderall in Chickasaw, Clay, Lowndes, Pontotoc and Union counties.
