Members of the Local Emergency Planning Committee toured the new location of the 911 Call Center following their quarterly meeting.
The new 911 center will be located at 972 East Broad St, the former home of the fire station.
Along with the new location. effective Dec. 17, 911 will offer enhanced 911 service. The new service  will feature CAD, computer aided dispatch and mapping. The CAD and mapping will allow the dispatchers to see where landline calls originate from. Treva Hodges, 911 director for Clay County hopes to offer this service to cell-phone callers by the first of the year.
The 911 dispatchers are currently housed in the sheriff department.
Effective Dec. 2, the administrative lines for 911 will be 494-5152 and 494-5154.
“We are so excited about the move,” said Hodges. “We look forward to providing enhanced emergency  service to the residents of Clay County.
Before touring the new facility, LEPC met at Henry Clay Hotel to discuss emergency personnel training. Representatives from the Clay County Sheriff's Department, North Mississippi Medical Center – West Point, Adventist Rescue Personnel, Babcock & Wilcox, West Point School District and the West Point Fire and Police Departments re-evaluated the Sept. 29  Disaster Management special training. During the 5:30 a.m. training, a chlorine leak was simulated and emergency personnel were required to respond. None of the emergency personnel were aware the call was for training and all responded timely and professionally.
“I was well satisfied with the response and corporation of all agencies involved.” said West Point Fire Chief Johnny Littlefield. “Everything went smoothly.”
