 Special to Daily Times Leader
Community Counseling Services would like to welcome Tanya Griggs as the new County Administrator for Clay County.
Griggs has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Southeastern Louisiana University and a Master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Social Work. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of MS. Griggs has been with CCS for the past six years. Prior to coming to CCS, Griggs worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle as the Clinical Coordinator of the Behavior Health Unit (Willowbrook) and subsequently as the director of Hospice. When Tanya first joined the CCS team, her position was as the Elderly Program Manager for Lindy’s Place located in Clay County. Griggs played a key role in getting this program up and running and saw the program through its initial implementation and growth. Griggs has a passion for working with the elderly population and has used her skills and knowledge to expand elderly services throughout our region. In addition, she has been a resource for the state Department of Mental Health during their annual Alzheimer’s Conference. Most recently, Griggs has served as the Oktibbeha County Administrator. Tanya played a key role in establishing nursing home based elderly programs in both Clay and Oktibbeha counties. In May of the year, Griggs coordinated the “Dementia Tour” throughout our region which was introduced during Mental Health Awareness Month. The purpose of the “Dementia Tour” is to help caregivers have a better understanding of the struggles someone faces who suffers from dementia. Since its introduction, we have received numerous requests to repeat the tour at health fairs and local hospitals. In addition to her role in orchestrating mental health services for the elderly, Griggs has worked closely with the local school systems. These efforts paid off when the Starkville Public Schools received a grant to provide additional mental health support services within the school system. Griggs will bring the same level of passion and optimism to Clay County to ensure that needed services are available for individuals who suffer from mental illness and their families. We are excited for Griggs and her new role with our agency and look forward to what she has to contribute to Clay County.
