It is that time of year again. Time for shop owners to pull out all the sparkles, put on the glitz and invite shoppers out to see what’s “hot “ this holiday season. West Point has everything needed to fill Santa’s sleigh.
The Christmas Open House Extravaganza is Sunday, Nov. 15, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. There will be 22 stores open for business in the Mossy Oak Outlet, around town and in historic Downtown. “The West Point Main Street Association has worked very hard planning and advertising this year’s Christmas Open House Extravaganza,” said Martha Allen, community director for the Growth Alliance. “We just need you, the local shopper to come out and support the merchants.” During the Christmas Open House, merchants will be serving refreshments, having sales, offering discounts and much more. The Clay County Co-op, located at 632 West Broad Street, is planning a sale on all apparel. “All clothes and boots will be on sale,” said Jennifer Edwards, clothing manager for the co-op. “We will also be giving away door prizes to help be delete names from their Christmas lists.” The Green Leaf Flowers and Gifts, located at 6220 West Main Street, are also conducting a sale, 15 percent off their entire stock. West Point has Annabelle’s, Wisteria, Bits N Pieces, Fore Seasons at Old Waverly and the Windmill. Culin-Arts, Outdoor Gear, Mar Lyn Ceramics and Adventure ATV are just a few of specialty stores shoppers can enjoy. “A gift for everyone on your list can be found in West Point,” said Allen. Petal Pushers, Flowers by Shirley and Rose Drugs have a wonderful selection. For those looking to shop on a budget, Just for Ladies, right down from the Old Town Grill Restaurant in the Mossy Oak Outlet, has items discounted to 30 percent of the original cost. The Ladies of Junior Auxiliary will be selling their Down Home cookbooks. Cindy Neely’s elementary art class from Churchill School will be selling handmade Mississippi and West Point ornaments, along with some of the children’s paintings and sculptures. Anytime Fitness will be set up on the streets of downtown meeting and greeting anyone that is interested in joining the 24 hour gym. The Oak Hill Band will be entertaining the crowds and selling fruit to raise money. The Main Street Association has been working closely with shop owners to improve the façade of their buildings and many great changes have been made. The Garden Club has filled flowerpots downtown with beautiful fall plants and vibrant pansies to add to the beauty of West Point. The Ritz will be open for lunch on Sunday as usual from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Pies, cakes, and other gourmet treats will be for sale in the Ritz Conference Center during the Open House event. “For our shoppers from out of town, Old Waverly Golf Club has donated their van to transport shoppers out to Fore Seasons, a store housing antiques and eclectic treasures,” said Allen. “The shuttle service will then run to the Mossy Oak Outlet on Highway 45 and then back to downtown West Point.” The West Point-Clay County Arts Council is sponsoring the Artist and Authors Showcase in the McClure Building on the corner of Broad and Commerce. Local painter, Lee Gibson and award-winning basket weaver Bessie Johnson will be there, as well as 17 other creative individuals who will be displaying their talents and selling their wares. The results of the Amateur Photography Contest sponsored by the Arts Council will be announced and the works will be on display. The Black Voices of Mississippi State University will sing Christmas carols entertaining both locals and visitors. “West Point Christmas Open House is a holiday shopping extravaganza that you do not want to miss,” said Allen. “The Main Street Market Association has worked very hard in preparation for this event and we’re confident that you will have a wonderful time.” For more information, call Allen at 494-5121
