To say Hebron's game tonight against Winona Christian is a big game would be an understatement.
An Eagles loss would end Hebron's season. It would also mean the end of the road for Hebron seniors.
Hopefully, Hebron can live to play on, senior quarterback Yance Falkner said.
"We've been watching a lot of film on them," he said. "And going over their plays. I hope we can come away with a win."
Hebron has picked up steam lately with three consecutive wins. Last week Falkner gained 121 yards and two touchdowns against Calhoun Academy.
Hebron, who started the season 1-5, has starting clicking at the right time, senior lineman Ryan Tennyson said.
"I knew the first few weeks of football was going to be kind of tough because we had a tough schedule," he said. "But after we got everybody to play together, I knew we had it in the bag."
Falkner agrees.
"We've played a bunch of close games this year," he said. "Just getting our confidence back was the main thing we had to do at the end of the season."
Last season, Hebron won their first district title and advanced to the second round of the playoffs before falling to Desoto, who went on to win the state title.
The Eagles, who went 8-5 in 2008, still have a chance to match or exceed last year's results by defeating Winona. Although the Eagles have not won as many games as last season, it hasn't been a bad season, Falkner said.
"I think we could have better than we did," he said. "We missed a few opportunities in some games. But, overall, I think it's been a pretty good season."
Tennyson agreed that his senior season has been as expected.
"Yeah it has (met expectations)," he said. "Other than a few games that we had a little trouble in, it's been a great season."
Whatever happens Friday night won't harm the fun-filled memories the two have gained while at Hebron.
"I'm going to miss just about everything," Falkner said. "But I'm going to miss football most of all."
The same goes for Tennyson.
"I'm going miss my friends, fellowship and football," he said.
