West Point defensive tackle Curtis Virges is this week's Feature Friday.  Virges has been teh heartbeat of a defense that has held opponents to under 15 points in four out of seven games.

The West Point Green Wave football team is on a six-game win streak, including a 33-30 win over Oxford last week.  A big part of the Green Wave's success has been their consistent dominant defense.  West Point has denied opponents to less than 15 points in four out of seven games.

Much of that can be accredited to defensive tackle Curtis Virges.  Virges, who once played both sides of the ball, now does all of his damage on defense.  The change has worked out well, he said.

"It's a lot of things I can do on the d-line that I couldn't do on offense," Virges said.  "I like where I am."

The 6-foot-3, 290 pound Virges, who verbally committed to Mississippi State, said West Point is on the right track in their hunt for a state title.

"Everyone is going out there and giving their best," he said.  "And that's what we wanted - for everyone to play as hard as possible."

Virges said his most memorable moment came last week at Oxford.

"I layed somebody out," he said.

Recently, West Point and other Mississippi high school teams have forced to re-schedule games in order to counteract the rainy and muddy conditions.  Last week the Green Wave moved their game against Oxford to Thursday night.  Although the rain may keep some fans away, great players can adapt to any situation, Virges said.

"The worst conditions bring out the best players," he said.  "That's how I feel."

When Virges isn't lighting up opposing players, he's checking out his favorite college team and future teammates at Mississippi State.  He said his favorite State players are defensive end Fletcher Cox and running back Anthony Dixon, who is less than 50 yards away from breaking Jerious Norwood's rushing record.

On Sunday afternoons, he's rooting for a not-so-easy to guess team.

"I like the Seattle Seahawks," he said.  "I like the way Shaun Alexander ran the ball in the national championship.  Even though he retired, I'm still a fan."

This week, the Green Wave will be a hosting Lake Cormorant.
