Quarterback Yance Falkner, No. 7, fights off a Desoto defender during Friday's 35-6 loss toss in West Helena, Ark.  Although Falkner was not very successful on offense, he finished with three tackles, two pass deflections and an interception on defense.  Ryan Pinnick, No. 33, finished with 76 yards on 20 carries.

The Desoto Thunderbirds of West Helena, Ark earned the crown as the  Mississippi Private School Association Class A state champions in 2008.  On Friday, they showed Hebron Christian exactly why they are known as champs - again.

The Thunderbirds easily defeated the Eagles in West Helena by the score of 35-6.  After a game where Hebron only completed three passes and allowed 413 total yards, the Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season.

The Thunderbirds, who beat the Eagles 33-13 in the second round of the playoffs last year, shutout Hebron through the first three quarters.  The score was 14-0 after the first quarter, 21-0 at the half and 35-0 after the end of three periods.

Hebron's only score came on a 5-yard run by sophomore running back Marques Robinson in the fourth quarter.

Two of Yance Falkner's completions went to Blake Harrell who had 15 yards receiving.  Ryan Pinnix led the Eagles rushing attack with 76 yards on 20 carries.  Robinson added 35 yards on seven carries and a touchdown.

J.D. Edwards added 42 yards on seven carries and caught a pass for seven yards.

Although Falkner was not effective on offensive, he made up for it on defense.  He finished with three tackles, two pass deflections and an interception.  Edwards led the defense with eight tackles.

The Eagles finished with 188 yards rushing, 22 yards passing and 96 return yards.

Next up for the Eagles are the West Memphis Black Knights on Friday.
