Weather forecasts paint an icy picture for Tuesday, but 4-County Electric Power Association (4-County) has boots on the ground to combat the expected adverse weather conditions.
According to a press release issued by 4-County, the company has initiated “emergency preparations” to help suppress the blow of any “possible weather damage to lines or equipment or service interruption” to its power consumers.
“We have crews and vehicles on standby ready to respond and we are watching the weather,” 4-County Manager of Consumer Services Cliff Wall said. “If anything happens, we will work as quickly as we can and as safely as possible to repair any damage and restore any outages.”
The press release states ice storms can prove challenging for 4-County repairmen, citing a delay in reparation efforts due to the fact the “ice has to recede before repairs can be made.”
Joe Miller, 4-County safety and training coordinator, said there are a laundry list of safety factors that need to be considered during icy weather conditions.
“If (there is) an ice event and lines are down, everyone should be very careful,” Miller said. “If you see a downed power line, stay away from it and call it in.”
The “extreme cold,” according to Miller, is also a foe to be wary of. Even in the event energy output is not hindered by power outages, individuals, he said, will be working more toward staying warm.
“People will be trying to keep their homes warm,” Miller said. “But they should remember to be safe.”
West Point Chief Administrative Officer Randy Jones said he did not expect any widespread power outages to occur within the city.
