A new electric power substation is under construction in Clay County to service to the new tire plant.
The $2.3 million Triathlon Substation, maintained by 4-County Electric, will provide service to the Yokohama Tire plant that’s also under construction.
4-County Communications Coordinator Brad Barr said that the substation will be located just north of Yokohama’s buildings on Barton Ferry Road.
“The substation was specifically built to service only the tire plant and and will have an initial capacity of 18 megawatts,” Barr said.
Barr said that planning for the substation began around the time the tire plant was announced in May 2013.
4-County CEO Joe Cade said that construction on the substation, which begin in mid to late March, is in it it’s middle stages.
“We’ll be providing construction power to the site from that substation on July 1,” Cade said. “We’re on schedule to meet that deadline.”
Cade said that 4-County is proud to be a part of this development.
