The total, combined runs scored by the Starkville Lady Jackets and West Point Lady Wave matched the cold, wintery temperatures.
One team was warm with the feeling of victory. While the other was left cold by a loss in this highly contested Golden Triangle Area rivalry.
The Lady Jackets rallied 10 runs in the final three innings to surpass the Lady Wave, 18-15, in a MHSAA non-district fast-pitch softball game Tuesday at West Point High School.
West Point pushed across one run in the final three innings.
The Lady Jackets trailed after five innings, 14-8, but answered at the plate with their final nine outs as the Lady Wave struggled in the field with multiple errors and walks. Starkville scored four runs in the fifth inning and added six more in the seventh inning, overtaking West Point for a four-run advantage before the bottom of the seventh, 18-14.
Starkville opened with one run in the first inning, but West Point immediately answered with sophomore Qiayon Bailey’s two-RBI double. Bailey later scored on Tytianna Anderson’s single for a 3-1 lead.
