KidTown has been vandalized recently, and security has increased at the playground in response.

Growth Alliance Director Lisa Klutts said vandals have littered and broken lights at night inside the park.

"The lights under the pavilion were broken, so they had to be replaced and all the glass had to be cleaned up," she said.

Klutts said the gate at KidTown will be locked from 8:30 p.m. until 6 a.m.

She said there were also surveillance cameras in use at the park.

"There is a surveillance camera and footage is being reviewed," Klutts said.

During open hours, glass, smoking, alcohol, firearms, knives or other weapons, pets, bikes, skateboards and hover boards are not allowed. Age limits are also posted on playground equipment.

Klutts said keeping the playground safe is a community effort.

"If you see something, do not hesitate to call the police," she said.
