Second name submitted for mayor seat

January 12, 2013

During a slow municipal qualifying week at West Point City Hall another citizen of West Point decided to submit their name late in the week in the pot for the seat of mayor.
That citizen is Darlene Cox, who turned in her qualifying paperwork Thursday to City Hall and hopes to be on the ballot as a democratic candidate for mayor. She plans to face off against incumbent Mayor Scott Ross, who submitted his intention last Monday to rerun for the post.
Cox’s move makes her the ninth West Point resident planning to run in the Municipal General Election, which will be held June 4. But first a party nominee must be chosen after the May 7 Primary Election that will be conducted by the West Point Municipal Election Commission. All nine residents who have submitted qualifying paperwork intend to run as democrats.
The following is a list of those who intend to run in the municipal races this year:
• Scott Ross – democrat – mayor
• Keith McBrayer – democrat – Ward 4 selectman
• Jasper Pittman – democrat – Ward 5 selectman
• Charles Collins – democrat – Ward 3 selectman
• Jimmy Clark – democrat – Ward 3 selectman
• William Binder – democrat – Ward 2 selectman
• Jimmy Davidson – democrat – Ward 1 selectman
• Linda Hanna – democrat – Ward 1 selectman
• Darlene Cox – democrat – mayor
