Sammie D. Pruett
Sammie D. Pruett, age 90, passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at the Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile, Ala.
Sammie D. Pruett was born April 27, 1920, in Monroe County, to the late Donie Little andJames Daniel Pruett. He worked 22 years at Cash & Carry Cleaners and retired in 1984, from Babcock and Wilcox Company in West Point as a machine operator. He was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. Mr. Pruett was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, where he served in the South Pacific.
Mr. Pruett married Mary Charlene Rook Pruett Oct. 24, 1947, in West Point.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pruett was also predeceased by seven brothers: Clinton, Clovis, Aubrey, Audie, Otis, Hollis, infant boy; and one sister, Flora Bell Pruett.
Funeral services are Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at 10 a.m. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Eddie Brock officiating and assisted by Reverend Mike Smith. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include, wife, Charlene Pruett of West Point; two daughters: Frances Westfaul (Buck) of Satsuma, Ala. and Sandra Strickland (Eddie) of Pheba; three granddaughters: Summerlyn Gwin of Satsuma, Ala., Katie Chandler (Kyle) of West Point and Amy Strickland of Jackson; three great- grandchildren: Rook Gwin of Satsuma, Ala., L.K. Chandler and Cora Chandler, both of West Point; one brother, Jimmie Pruett of West Point; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Charles Wyatt, Marvin Turnipseed, James Camp, Billy Gipson, Don Permenter, and Ed McIntire.
Honorary pallbearers are Raiford McCraw, James Bramlett, Tony Cates, Dr. Andrew Wartak, The Men's Sunday School Class at Trinity Baptist Church, and The Staff of E.A. Roberts Center in Mobile, Ala.
