Ruby Lavonne Smith

Ruby Lavonne Smith, age 87, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
Ruby Lavonne Smith was born Jan. 20, 1924, to the Rev. John Nathaniel and Beulah Blakey in Mounds, La. She was blessed with the atmosphere of a Christian home and her religious affiliation was with the Methodist Church. She was deeply involved with the ministries of St. Paul United Methodist Church in West Point. Mrs. Smith served in several ministries: Finances, Bible study and as a Sunday School teacher. Along with her strong religious beliefs, was her commitment to education. For over 40 years she served in public education as teacher, principal and mentor.
Funeral services are Saturday, April 2, 2011, at 11 a.m. from St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Maggie Little officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is today, from 3 – 6 p.m. from Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.
Ruby Smith was married to Feunell Smith for 64 years. Born to this union were two children: daughter, Charlene Smith Noble (Robert) of Carrollton, Texas; son, Daryl Smith (Ruthie) of Jackson, Miss.; also left to cherish her memory is a sister, Mamie Brown of Philadelphia, Pa.; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Preceding her in death were two brothers: Alonzo Williams, and A.J. Williams; and one sister, Olevia Warren.
