Robert E. Hemphill

Robert E. Hemphill, age 88, passed away, Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, North Mississippi Medical Center, West Point. Robert E. Hemphill was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Columbus, Miss., to the late Florence Marie Stafford and Samuel Nathan Hemphill. He was a Textile Mill Operator for Fruit of the Loom for 58 years. Mr. Hemphill was a member of Garden Baptist Church in Aliceville, Ala., where he was still an active Deacon. Robert E. Hemphill married Maggie Reed Hemphill on Oct. 11, 1941, in Fayette, Ala., she preceded him in death Mar. 27, 1995.
Funeral services are Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. from Garden Baptist Church of Aliceville, Ala., with the Bro. David Barrentine officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery West Point, Miss.
Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters: Sue Melcher of West Point, Miss., Maragaret Franklin of Troy, Ala.; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Hemphill of Starkville, Miss.; a number of nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Robert E. Hemphill was also predeceased by son, Earl Ray
Hemphill, Sept. of 1994.
Pallbearers are Jonathon Redmond, Justin Redmond, Jesse Melcher, Devan Melcher, Danny Coleman, Sammy Coleman, Freddy Melcher, and Adam Pate.
Honorary pallbearers are his church family at the Garden Baptist Church, all his friends at the Senior Center in Aliceville, Ala., and the Nurses and Staff at West Point Community Living Center.
Visitation is Saturday, 10 a.m. until service time at Calvert Funeral Home.
