Residents request BoS time change

Clay County residents brought something new to the table during the Clay County Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday. Local NAACP representative Johnny Rasberry peitioned the board on a number of items, particularly that of holding at least one of its three monthly meetings later in the day — no earlier than 5:30 p.m. — to accommodate those who work during the day and improve accessibility to the workings of local government. Rasberry said often, because supervisors meet at 9 a.m. on the, first and third Monday, as well as the first Thursday, of each month, it was sometimes difficult for residents who work to get away long enough to participate in meetings.
At least one county resident, Bobby Darby, was in full support of the notion.
“Was this an actual request or are you all going to just leave him blowing in the wind?” Darby asked the board. “... Our government should be accessible to the people of Clay County. ... You could at least be kind enough to vote on it.”
