Raiders 54, Rebels 66

MADDEN –– Leake Academy's returning District 2-AA Player of the Year Alex Shepherd was too much for Oak Hill to handle in its opening game of the District 2-AA campaign Tuesday evening.
The 6-foot-3-inch junior point guard scored a game-high 34 points, and the Leake Rebels (8-2; 1-0 District 2-AA) secured a 66-54 win over the Oak Hill Raiders (5-5; 0-1 District 2-AA) in a MAIS Basketball game.
Oak Hill's Drake Riley collected a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Drew Riley scored 14 points in the Raiders' fourth loss in the past five games.
“Our performance for the first three quarters was good enough to challenge them for a win,” Oak Hill Head Coach Brian Middleton said. “The final quarter was just not enough to secure a win.
“We shot well in the first half but still didn't play our best basketball,” Middleton added. “Our performance was better than more recent ones, but we still can play better.”
Oak Hill had a spark off the bench as sophomore Chance Wilson provided valuable minutes, reaching double figures with 10 points and pulling down five rebounds.
