Raiders win first conference game

March 25, 2014

The Oak Hill Raiders came to the ballpark Saturday afternoon at home looking to notch their first district win of the young season with a rematch against the Tri-County Rebels, who bested the Raiders in their first matchup 10-4. The Raiders did just that thanks to playing a solid all-around game, and a combined 11 runs in the third and fourth innings.
“I was glad to see us play a complete game from start to finish,” Oak Hill Assistant Coach Mitch Bohon said. “We let a couple of games get away from us earlier in the year, but I’m proud that they did not give up and found a way to beat a good Tri-County team.”
Riley Pierce came in and shut the door on a 13-6 win recording the last four outs of the game. Pierce took over for Drew Riley, who tossed five and two thirds innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out three.
“I thought Drew Riley had a gutsy performance on the mound,” Pitching Coach Brett Blaise said. “He gave up some hits, but I like how he filled up the zone and let his defense work behind him. We are getting better every outing and if we continue to improve then we will be fine.”
