The Oak Hill Academy boys basketball team started off their week of play pretty good, with a decisive 68-26 win over Leake, at home. Unfortunately for the Raiders, an overtime thriller against Indianola on Friday night did not go their way, as the 60-58 loss caused a split in the late week action.
In the first game, the Raiders jumped on top 23-9 in the first quarter. That was followed by a 12-7 second quarter performance, giving the Raiders a 35-16 lead going into half.
When the two teams came back out, things just got worse for the Rebels, as they scored just two points to the Raiders’ 20 points in the third.
The fourth quarter put the final nail in the coffin for Leake, as Oak Hill scored 13 more points to the Rebels’ eight points for the win.
Jeb Stevens had 11 points, in the game, as did John Wesley Williamson and Reid Posey.
Zach Bryan had nine points, while Steven Jones scored 13 points on the night.
Phillip Liu got four points, as did John Robert Wilbourne. Adame Tumey scored two points, and Conner Baird had three.
In the second game, the Raiders found themselves down by a tremendous deficit late, but a 27-point fourth got them enough to tie the game and send it into overtime.
In the first, Oak Hill scored eight points to Indianola’s six. The Colonels came back in the second, and they outs-scored the Raiders 14-7. The gap widened in the third, as Oak Hill gave up 20 points and scored only 11 points.
The fourth, however, saw a big offensive outburst from Oak Hill, as they got that 27 point quarter, capped off by a three point shot from Zach Bryan to tie the game with six seconds left.
In overtime, the game was tied with 11 seconds left, and Oak Hill had the ball.
After a timeout, they threw the ball in, but they dribbled it into the hands of the Indianola defender, and he took it all the way to the goal for a layup and a two-point win.
In junior high action, Oak Hill won both games last week, defeating Leake 49-46 and Indianola 45-31.
In the Leake game, Curt Huffman had 12 points, while Bradley Allen led the squad with 16.
Matthew Gwathney scored 10 points, Riley Pierce had six points, and Chase Nash scored five on the night.
Oak Hill will be back in action tonight against Marshall. Full recap and photos from Monday night’s home game against Starkville will be in tomorrow’s edition of the Daily Times Leader.
