Raiders set for home match against Heritage

August 19, 2010

Last season, the Heritage Academy Patriots looked quite intimidating out of the gates. However, down the stretch, the team experienced nine straight losses to negate a 3-0 start.
The Oak Hill Academy Raiders are going to try to make it 10 consecutive loses on Friday night, and they will be trying to avenge an opening week loss to Heritage in 2009.
That loss was 47-14, and it set the tone for an 0-4 start for the Raiders.
The Patriots are going to be attempting a winning start, with a pretty formidable roster, which sports a little under 30 players.
“They are well coached,” said Oak Hill head coach Leroy Gregg. “They are huge. The quarterback is 230 (pounds). They are good size across the front.”
Gregg has a roster that dresses out 17 varsity players on opening night. The Oak Hill coach is hoping to cash in on the Patriots’ youth tomorrow night.
“They are starting some young players, just like we are,” he said.
The Patriots look good in the quarterback position, and Gregg says that the team will have a really strong defense.
That should prove to be Oak Hill’s first big challenge on offense in 2010. The Raiders are going to have a lot of speed in the backfield.
Oak Hill has had a good pre-season. They did not play in a Spring practice game, but they have more than made up for that in the last couple of weeks.
Two Fridays ago, the Raiders hosted a scrimmage with Immanuel that went very well for both the offense and defense.
Gregg was very happy with both sides of the ball coming out of that match.
Last Friday, the team traveled to Manchester to take on Hillcrest and Carroll. Oak Hill was victorious in both of those, but it was the offense that shined most that night.
Gregg said earlier this week that the defense was going to have to improve on some things prior to tomorrow’s game with Heritage.
The Patriots finished their jamboree with a split.
Kickoff will be tonight, at Oak Hill, at 7 p.m.
