CARROLLTON - The Oak Hill Academy boys and girls basketball teams continued their winning streaks Wednesday afternoon, pulling out a pair of wins over Desoto in the Carroll Academy Christmas Tournament.
Anna Ready and Shay Atkins led the girls with 14-points apiece in a 50-24 victory, extending their winning streak to three games.
â€śWe came out really sluggish today, we didnâ€™t defend too well at all,â€ť head coach Stan Hughey said. â€śYou could tell weâ€™ve been out for while.â€ť
Even without Tori Ellis in the starting lineup, Oak Hill jumped out to an early 16-4 lead. Desoto (Ark.) scored nine points in the second quarter, but still trailed 27-13 at the half.
Oak Hill 14-4, blew the game wide open in the fourth quarter knocking down a game-high 17-points.
Rachel Herndon nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds while Ellis scored seven points off the bench. Mitchell, who started for Ellis, had just two points, but was very productive on the glass with nine boards.
Boys: Oak Hill 57-42 Desoto
The Raiders earned their season-best fifth consecutive win and improved to 10-6 on the season after defeating the MAIS Class A school.
The game was tied at eight after the first quarter, before the Raiders firmly took control in the second with 20-points and never looked back. They led at the half 28-16.
Desoto wasnâ€™t going down quietly though, scoring 28 of their own in the second half including 18-points in the fourth quarter.
AJ Jones led the boys with 23-points followed by John Wesley Williamson with 12. Bradley Allen had nine points and was 3-of-4 from behind the line.
Both teams will be back in action Thursday versus Benton Academy.View more articles in:
