The Oak Hill Academy Raiders did not get off to a great start in district play when they faced Manchester Academy three times last week. Manchester put up 46 runs in the three games, as Oak Hill dropped to 0-3 in conference play to start the league portion of the 2011 season.
Tonight, the Raiders will attempt to refocus to better their chances for a playoff berth, when they take on the struggling Rebels of Carroll Academy.
The Raiders have been on and off so far this season, with the bats heating up at times, and going cold at others.
Going into the Manchester series, Oak Hill was coming off a pair of wins against Immanuel and Lamar that saw them score 32 runs in the two home games.
Manchester had been struggling on offense until they met Oak Hill for a three-game sweep.
The Raiders came out for five runs in the first game against Manchester, but a nine-run fourth inning put that game away after five innings 15-5.
In the first game on Thursday, the Oak Hill offense was unable to get anything going against the Mavericks, who scored 18 runs to Oak Hill’s one run in the game.
The following game saw the Oak Hill bats light up again, as the Raiders scored eight runs, but Manchester was able to escape with 13 runs of its own to finish the sweep of the series.
On Friday, Oak Hill rebounded to defeat Victory Christian 10-9 in the Raiders’ last at-bat.
Oak Hill head coach Marion Bratton used his entire staff to complete the win on Friday night.
Oak Hill’s playoff chances are still very much alive. Wins this week and the next against two struggling clubs would put them in good position to make the post-season.
Carroll will arrive in time for a 4 p.m. varsity game, which will be followed by the junior varsity match.
On Thursday, it will be Oak Hill traveling to Carroll for the district doubleheader night. Those two games will begin at 4 p.m. as well.
